For this week’s post, I would like to bring your attention to the page link at the top menu bar of this site.  I wrote “Is My Baby Normal?” post-retirement after running into a few labor and delivery nurses. They lamented the fact that some new (and often young)  parents were sent home with very few references or resources to guide them before their first scheduled appointment with their baby’s physician.  The babies were well cared for by the pediatric hospitalists, but many new parents were discharged without having established a relationship with a pediatrician.

It is my goal to provide a general reference for those who are new to parenting, or parenting a newborn for the first time in many years.  I am NOT in any way trying to discourage communication with your child’s physician!    All children and their families deserve a medical “home”; a place  where they can be examined, treated, and educated in their health care by a doctor who knows and understands their unique family situation and needs.

I hope this helps in the meantime for those who are anxious, and perhaps a little hesitant to ask questions, whether for fear of embarrassment or lack of expert availability.

One article cannot cover ALL possible issues, by any means, but is hopefully a good start.

BOTTOM LINE:  If you have serious concerns about your infant’s health, well-being or safety, call your pediatrician or 911, or go to the emergency room immediately!
